A vodka built the way
Scotland builds whisky.
X MUSE is the first blended barley vodka. Two heritage barleys are distilled separately and then blended in precise quantities — a method borrowed from Scotch, and almost unheard of in the vodka category.
The result is a vodka with something to say. It is built to be sipped as much as stirred, which is why it has become a fixture on martini lists at some of the most demanding bars in the country.
Heritage Barley
Plumage Archer and Maris Otter — two heritage varieties grown in the UK and prized for flavour rather than yield. Distilled apart, then married.
Ancient Water
Any spirit is mostly water. Theirs is drawn from an ancient aquifer beneath the Bonnington Estate, at the heart of Jupiter Artland outside Edinburgh.
Amethyst
Part of the liquid is rested on amethyst crystals, then reintroduced as “magic drops” in the final stages. A ritual, and a nod to Anya Gallaccio’s amethyst grotto.
The Object
Designed from a land artwork.
The bottle, by Stranger & Stranger, takes its curving form from Charles Jencks’s Cells of Life — the land art that frames the very aquifer the water is drawn from.

Where the Name Comes From
The tenth muse.
Greek mythology has nine muses. The tenth combines the powers of all of them — the muse above muses, never seen, never defined, pushing towards harmony and balance.
The name is taken directly from Xth Muse, a 2008 sculpture by the Scottish poet, artist and gardener Ian Hamilton Finlay, which stands at Jupiter Artland. The brand motto belongs to Dr John Dee, the sixteenth-century alchemist: plura latent quam patent — more is hid than uttered.

The Signature Martini
- 50ml X MUSE Vodka
- 10ml Noilly Prat Dry Vermouth
- 2ml Oli’ Still
Stir with ice, strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a large caperberry.
The Amethyst Martini
- 50ml X MUSE infused with butterfly pea flowers
- 10ml Manzanilla Sherry
- 5ml St Germain
- 2.5ml verjus or lemon juice
Stir with ice, strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with an edible purple wildflower.
